POLICE officers in Beverley are organising a fundraising walk for Macmillan Cancer Support after watching the emotional meeting of a young boy who admitted stealing a charity collection box and a cancer patient.

The meeting took place at Kirkella police station in Hull but PC Andy White, who arranged it through the restorative justice programme, was so touched by the boy and his family's reaction on meeting 60 year old Brian, who has cancer, that he decided to take action.

On Saturday, May 10 PC White will walk from Beverley Police Station to Queens Gardens Police Station, Hull with charity collection boxes.

He will be joined by friends and family, colleagues from Humberside Police, former professional footballer Nicky Barmby, and a group of other young people who have also been through the restorative justice scheme.

The Pilot Pub in Beverley is offering refreshments to fundraisers on the walk, which will start at Humberside Police’s East Ridings Headquarters in Beverley pass through Saturday Market and Wednesday Market before heading on to Hull.
