A MAJOR facelift for Beverley town centre which had been due to start this week will now start next Monday.

The work was postponed following a meeting of East Riding of Yorkshire Council on 9 January, when a question was asked regarding the cobble setts.

Coun Stephen Parnaby, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, announced that the scheme would be rephased so that the section relating to the setts could be undertaken later on in the project to allow further discussions to take place with interested parties.

Work will be phased to minimise disruption, with the first phases focusing on repairs to the Yorkstone pavements.

This will include reuse of existing materials and utilisation of reclaimed Yorkstone to match.

The work will start near The Grapes public house and is estimated to take approximately a week and a half to complete. It will be followed by a second phase of work from The Grapes to Dyer Lane, which expected to take three weeks.

Access to local shops will be maintained throughout the work.

Regular updates will be issued in advance of each phase commencing and it is anticipated that the footway works programme will take until the summer to complete.
