PLANS for a wind farm in an East Yorkshire village have been rejected because they would have interfered with a nearby RAF station’s radar.
The proposals for the six masts at Burton Agnes, which would all have been at least 100m high, were submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council by Bristol-based Wind Prospect Developments Limited in August 2011.
The authority said the turbines earmarked for Thornholme Fields, on Rudston Road, would cause “unacceptable interference” to the radar system at RAF Staxton Wold, nine miles away, after the Ministry of Defence objected to the scheme.
It also said the height and appearance of the masts would harm the appearance of the Yorkshire Wolds and Burton Agnes Hall.
Wind Prospect had said the development would be designed in a way which would minimise its impact on the surrounding countryside, but the scheme drew a wave of opposition from local residents. Campaigners have claimed the Wolds are in danger of being harmed by an large increase in applications for wind turbines to be built in East Yorkshire in recent years.
