Five are arrested for ‘drink-driving’

FIVE people were arrested at the weekend after allegedly being caught drink-driving, according to Humberside Police.

Among the five to be detained in custody was a 34-year-old Bridlington woman who was stopped on Saturday night on Dog and Duck Lane in Beverley; a 53-year-old Selby woman was stopped on Saturday night after her car was seen to swerve across Ilkeston Avenue in Goole; and a 31-year-old Bridlington man allegedly refused to take a roadside breath test in the early hours of Saturday morning after the car he was driving ended up in a ditch on Meaux Road, Wawne.

Humberside Police warned that it often took longer than people thought for alcohol to pass through their system.

Insp Mark Hughes said: “Each year in Humberside, more than 1,000 drivers who are breathalysed are over the limit. Drink-driving costs the East Riding £1.78 million a year.”
