CONTROVERSIAL plans to build 800 homes and a secondary school in an East Yorkshire town will go on public display next week.
The two-day exhibition, which runs next Monday and Tuesday, will outline proposals by a consortium comprising North Bar Homes Limited and Shirethorn Limited to develop 140 acres of land at Molescroft, near Beverley.
The scheme would also include a science park, a small hotel, a care home and a petrol station.
It would also fund a new school to replace the current Longcroft School.
The North Beverley Action Group is opposing the plans, describing them as “piecemeal” and “suburban sprawl”.
The consortium’s spokesman Michael Wright said the exhibition, which will be held at the Beverley Arms Hotel, was a “key stage” in its consultation process and the “first real opportunity” for residents to look at the plans.
He said the development would create jobs and housing and the school would “benefit young people in Beverley for generations to come”.
