Lord Mayor pays tribute to Marine David Hart

THE Lord Mayor of York has expressed her sadness following the death of a third York serviceman in Afghanistan.

Coun Sue Galloway said: “It is with great sadness that I have learned of the death of Marine David Hart.

“On behalf of the people of York I extend our condolences to Marine Hart’s family and friends. Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.

“We are all proud of our armed forces and the jobs that they do to keep the country safe.”

As reported in The Press, Marine Hart, from Poppleton, was killed by a blast on Thursday on the eve of his 24th birthday.

His parents Dilys and Chris and his sister Sarah have described him as a “true hero” who displayed the commando spirit throughout his life.
