ALWAYS going the extra mile and going above and beyond his job description could see one York man being named the city's public sector hero.
Guy Fowler has been nominated for the title in the York Community Pride Awards, run by the Press in conjunction with City of York Council.
Guy, of Holgate, has been an estate worker in Clifton for more than two years and has been put forward for the award because of his commitment to the job.
He was nominated by resident Helen Douglas, in Clifton, York, who feels that Guy provides herself and her neighbours with a first-class service.
Helen said: "Guy Fowler has been the Clifton Estate worker for more than two years and has served the community of Clifton Council Estate with extreme commitment and is well known and appreciated throughout the community.
"He goes above and beyond his job description to keep the environment clean and tidy and provides a first class public service to the estate.
"He attends local residents associations meetings, participates in the discussions and makes well thought out suggestions to improve the service to residents."
Helen says that Guy is known by every resident in Clifton Estate on a first names basis and has a rapport with people of all ages.
"He has gained the respect of everyone," she said.
"What is typical of Guy is that he is always willing to help those in need. Whatever the problem or need, he will fix it, or will find a man who can.
"Guy even gives out his mobile phone number so if anybody needs his help, they can just call. He is invaluable to the area."
The Press still needs more nominees for the Community Pride awards. If you know of someone who you think has made an outstanding contribution to the community, The Press would love to hear from you.

I must admit I've never seen him? But that doesn't take away the fact that people who have think highly of him. I must look more in to this Residents malarky - it may be a way of getting all the kids who go to Canon Lee to stop dropping their litter all along Burdyke Ave after they've visited the shops at lunch-time!
