THIS neighbour, who always went the extra mile, is in line for a community pride award.

It was the support and help that caring Yvonne Judd, of Fossway, Heworth, gave to former neighbour Katrina Minns that helped her get through each day.

When Katrina was going through a tough period in her life, it was Yvonne who was always there to help, listen and offer advice.

Her kindness towards Katrina has earned her a nomination in the public sector hero category of The Press's Community Pride Awards.

Katrina said: "I am entering Yvonne Judd for the public sector hero award because there is just nobody who deserves it better. I used to live opposite Yvonne in Fossway, Heworth, and she helped me so much every day. Whenever I needed someone to talk to she was always available. She is truly the friendliest and nicest neighbour you could ever hope to have.

"The support she gave me through a tough period in my life has made so much difference to me. There are those people who wouldn't have bothered to help, yet Yvonne is just one of those people who will always put other people first.

"She is a one-in-a-million neighbour and she deserves to win this award more than anyone else I know."

The Press still needs more nominees for the York Community Pride awards.

There are three finalists in each of the 14 categories. This summer, a panel of judges, including representatives from The Press and City of York Council, will be whittling down a shortlist from your nominations, and the coveted awards will be presented at a ceremony at York Racecourse in October.
