INDIVIDUAL CATEGORIES

SPIRIT OF YOUTH
For young people aged 13 to 18 inclusive, to be awarded for the best positive contribution to peers, their school or college, their community or the city in general.

PUBLIC SECTOR HERO
Someone who works in the public sector and has gone that extra mile to help others or use his or her skills outside of work to assist others or improve their environment.

CHARITY FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR
This amateur fundraiser need not necessarily have raised the most cash, but will be judged on innovative fundraising methods and the personal effort involved.

CHILD OF THE YEAR
For young people aged 12 or under who have overcome an adversity or faced up with courage to life’s hardships and challenges. The winner will be a real child of courage.

TEACHER OF THE YEAR
We’re looking for someone who, through their enthusiasm and commitment, can truly inspire their pupils.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
For an individual who gives freely and unselfishly of his or her time to help others.

HEALTH SERVICE HERO
Every day, an army of unsung heroes quietly go about their duties in the health service. We’re looking for that special someone whose dedication is second to none.

SPORTING HERO
For a person who has made an outstanding contribution to amateur sport in a playing or non-playing capacity.

YORK COMMUNITY PRIDE PERSON OF THE YEAR
For an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to promoting pride in our city or our community.

PARENT OF THE YEAR
Is your mum or dad one in a million? If they’re always there for you, and you’d be lost without them, why not show how grateful you are and nominate them for this award? NB. sorry, it’s mum OR dad, not both for this category.

GROUP CATEGORIES

SERVICE WITH A SMILE
This award is for any sector of York business or commerce which has demonstrated outstanding customer care and any charitable organisations that operate for the benefit of people in York.

BEST COMMUNITY PROJECT
For projects carried out by an informal, non-recognised voluntary group (recognised or registered voluntary organisations such as Rotary, Round Table or Lions Clubs are not eligible).

BEST PRIMARY SCHOOL PROJECT
Any school project which has improved its surroundings or the environment in general. This can be an ongoing project.

BEST SECONDARY SCHOOL OR HIGHER EDUCATION PROJECT
Any school or higher education project which has improved its surroundings or the environment in general. This can be an on-going project.
