WHO doesn’t like a busker? They add to York’s ambience and offer a soundtrack to warm even the coldest day. But not everyone sees it this way. Street musician Jonny Walker accused council officials of behaving heavy-handedly in 2013, when his licence was suspended.
Hopefully those days are behind us now, with a new guide aimed at fostering good relationships between street entertainers, businesses and shoppers in York.
As with most things, compromise is the best way to ensure harmony. Buskers may earn a living on the streets, but where they choose to perform and at what volume is not simply a matter for them. Those who might otherwise be inconvenienced should also be consulted.
We hope this guide will go a long way to avoiding the sort of unnecessary conflict Mr Walker experienced two years ago.
