GOOD news for householders: your water is about to get cheaper.
Yorkshire Water will be cutting bills by an average of three per cent in the next financial year.
So far so good.
What the water company didn’t say in letters sent out to customers is that households on meters will enjoy much bigger cuts (an average of 5 per cent) than those which are un-metered (an average reduction of 1.4 per cent). It was only when The Press asked that this was revealed.
There is nothing wrong with cutting metered bills more than unmetered bills, if Yorkshire Water is keen to persuade customers to switch. Meters would encourage us all to waste less water.
But why on earth didn’t the company tell customers in the letters it sent out, so they could make an informed choice about how they want to pay for their water?
