IT may be in a parlous state, but the art deco aircraft factory in Piccadilly could yet form part of the street’s rejuvenation. It just needs someone with a bit of foresight to take the place on.
That person could be Ian Reed of the Yorkshire Air Museum, who wants to turn the building into a 1930s themed attraction, now the council has rejected bids to demolish it in favour of a new hotel.
One of the reasons given is those proposals weren’t commercially satisfactory. But Mr Reed’s idea could be a great evening attraction that breathes new life into this part of York.
Let’s hope capital, in its narrowest sense, isn’t the only consideration.
