THE year 1066 is one most pivotal in English history. Three major battles – at Fulford, Stamford Bridge and finally Hastings – decided the country’s future. By the year’s end, the English king was dead, and the Normans ruled England.
The Battle of Hastings is celebrated in the renowned Bayeux Tapestry. A few years ago, the people of Fulford embroidered their own tapestry to commemorate the Battle of Fulford.
Now, to mark next year’s 950th anniversary, Stamford Bridge plans a third tapestry, telling the story of its battle. What a great idea. Volunteers are needed. So if you’d like to literally help weave a part of English history, now is your chance.
