EVERY year at The Press Community Pride Awards this newspaper salutes York’s unsung heroes and heroines. Quite rightly so, but we also, on a daily basis, raise our collective hats to those whose actions might not win prizes, but do win hearts.
Take eight-year-old Margaux Barker who, despite undergoing risky open heart surgery, is now starring in Old Mother Goose alongside Berwick Kaler.
Then there is seven-year-old Lilia Day, who is to donate her long hair so that wigs can be made for child cancer patients, after learning that the young daughter of a close family friend had been diagnosed with leukaemia.
Deeds like these make you feel rather humble, don’t you think?
