GOOD intentions can sometimes lead to unfortunate consequences.
A York social club which set out to raise money for Help For Heroes through a fundraising concert has been landed with a £5,000 court bill after unwittingly breaking the law on late-night noise.
Neighbours of the Post Office Employees Social Club in Marygate complained they couldn’t sleep.
The club had already been warned about noise by the council – and wound up in court.
Club members are a little aggrieved.
They claim the club has been there more than 70 years, but has only started to receive complaints about noise since new flats were built a few years ago.
All is well that ends well, however.
Members have now loaned their club £22,000 to install sound-proofing.
So in future they will hopefully be able to continue their fundraising undisturbed.
