WELCOME To Yorkshire boss Gary Verity is the man whose determination, business contacts and sheer chutzpah are widely credited with bringing the Tour de France to God’s Own Country.
Next Sunday we will know who the winner of this year’s Tour is. But actually, we know already: itsYorkshire, of course. We wowed the world with the beauty of our scenery and the warmth of our welcome, and that is bound to be reflected in years to come in the numbers of tourists coming here.
We will all benefit from that - and in large part it is down to Mr Verity and the organisation he heads.
We are delighted, therefore, to see him being awarded an honorary degree by the University of York. It is thoroughly deserved - as is that to Theatre Royal Chief Executive Liz Wilson. Hats off to both.
