This weekend has seen glorious weather, give or take a cloudburst falling on the Dragon Boat races.
Most citizens enjoyed the sunshine sensibly, getting out and about, taking part in events, or just relaxing at home.
So why do a stubborn minority put lives at risk with idiotic behaviour largely fuelled by drink?
Rescuers had to haul a father and son from the river despite repeated warnings issued following tragedies in York, and violent incidents surged, putting 999 services under unnecessary pressure.
How many times must such individuals be told of the risks they are running to themselves and others? It must be hugely depressing for the crews who have to deal with this stupidity.
