INTEREST rates remain at a historic low, inflation has plummeted to 1.5 per cent and the economy is on the mend, so you might expect people to be celebrating their lot.
But many are not. In fact some have had enough and yesterday they took to the streets in protest at pay, pensions and cuts in public services.
Placards read, “We are worth more then 1 per cent” and of course they are, but we are still reeling from the worst recession in living memory, with further cutbacks to come. We understand the frustrations, but would question whether striking is the answer.
