SINCE 2010, York Cares has worked with local charities to focus on the city’s more disadvantaged areas.

Its annual Big Community Challenge brings together employee volunteers, local schools and community groups to transform an outdoor area in three days.

York Cares has already redeveloped St Nicholas Fields. In 2011 it created Community Gardens at Westfield Primary School, and last year transformed the old grounds of Haxby Road Primary School.

Now this year’s project is under way to revamp the adventure playground at Bell Farm, historically one of the most disadvantaged parts of the city.

We have nothing but praise for York Cares and its fantastic initiatives. It just goes to show how much compassion we have for those less fortunate in this city.
