THE father of missing York chef Claudia Lawrence is to present the findings of an inquiry into the rights of families of missing people.

Peter Lawrence will join relatives of other people who have disappeared at Downing Street after giving evidence at a parliamentary inquiry last month.

He will hand in the findings together with Rachel Elias, sister of missing Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards, and Nicki Durbin, whose 19-year-old son Luke has not been seen since May 2006.

Claudia, then 35, has been missing since March 2009 and police are treating her disappearance as murder. Mr Lawrence said he hoped the inquiry will lead to a new law allowing families to appoint a trustee to deal with the affairs of missing people 90 days after they disappear.

"I am pleased the Prime Minister is taking an interest in the 'missing rights' issue and hope this will ensure something will soon be done to help those families who find themselves in difficulties," he said.

The Justice Select Committee is expected to announce it is launching an official inquiry into Presumption of Death legislation. Supporters of the Missing People charity will also be at today's handing-in of the findings.
