PREPARATIONS for a fresh appeal aimed at solving the mystery of missing York chef Claudia Lawrence are continuing.
A week before an awareness day which the 35-year-old’s family hope will help to unearth vital clues about her disappearance, new posters urging anybody with information to come forward have been distributed at York’s council offices and are also available at The Press offices in Walmgate.
Businesses are being urged to show their support for Claudia’s family and friends by displaying the poster as part of the awareness day. It is hoped the posters, designed by artists at The Press, will be emblazoned across the city by next Friday – the eve of Claudia’s 36th birthday. Balloons carrying her image will also be released and a huge birthday cake will form the centrepiece of the awareness event in St Sampson’s Square.
Claudia, who worked as a chef at the University of York, vanished on March 18 last year and, despite a global appeal for information into her disappearance, she has yet to be found, with police treating the case as suspected murder.
City of York Council city centre manager, Paul Barrett, said: “I can not believe that it is almost a year since Claudia went missing and it is coming up to her birthday so it is an appropriate time to refresh peoples minds to the events of last year. As an individual and as city centre manager for the City of York Council I am eager to help in any way I can to keep Claudia’s disappearance in people’s minds until we have the answers we need.”
Francine Clee, The Press’s deputy editor, said: “We hope that our posters and the awareness day will either prompt somebody’s memory or prick their conscience and bring to light fresh information.”
Posters can be picked up from The Press offices, at 76/86 Walmgate, York, or at the city centre council offices at 5 Silver Street, near Parliament Street, in York. Businesses can also download their own poster from http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/resources/files/8337/ Anyone with any information about Claudia’s disappearance should phone North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060247.
