A good clean fight

10:06am Thursday 22nd June 2006

THE PRESS attracted wide-spread support after launching our Yes! To Clean Air campaign to stub out smoking in the workplace in May 2005.

We teamed up with Selby and York Primary Care Trust to support local businesses and organisations to become smoke-free and protect workers from second-hand smoke.

We took the lead by closing the staff smoking room at our Walmgate offices, and since then dozens of businesses have signed up to make their own premises smoke-free zones.

Cafs, guesthouses, sports clubs and many others have taken the first steps to becoming smoke-free or come forward to say they are already smoke-free to qualify for the Yes! To Clean Air Award.

A smoke-free workplace support pack can be sent to any organisation to help them on their way. This includes details on implementing a no smoking policy, a model no smoking policy, and an application form to receive a Yes! To Clean Air Award.

Information about North Yorkshire Stop Smoking Service (NYSSS), which is available to support people to stop smoking, is also included.
