Our Lifesavers campaign aims to ease the agony for thousands of people on the UK organ donor transplant list.

We aim to raise awareness of organ donation and encourage people to discuss it with their loved ones; to reopen the debate on adopting an opt-out system; and, above all, we want to recruit 20,000 new donors in our region by the end of 2010.

Lifesavers organ donation campaign moves up a gear

HEALTH workers and The Press will take to the streets of York later this month, as we continue our drive to sign up 20,000 heroes.

Our Lifesavers campaign, which aims to up the number of organ donors in our region, has already seen more than 2,500 people sign up and now we are stepping up the effort.

On February 25, the national Organ Donor Roadshow will visit St Sampson’s Square in central York, giving people more information on organ donation and urging them to sign up.

Joanne Turner, donor transplant co-ordinator at York Hospital, said: “It’s really exciting having the roadshow come to York. It gives people the chance to talk with those involved in organ donation and the opportunity to ask us anything about organ donation and transplants.”

For information on how to sign up for organ donation, phone 0300 123 23 23 or visit organdonation.nhs.uk or text SAVE to 84118.
