THE closure of a York post office has been brought forward by two weeks to this Friday due to "logistical constraints".
Clifton Post Office had been scheduled to shut its counter for the final time on Wednesday, May 7, but bosses have now said they will be coming in to take equipment away from the branch and cash up for the last time at close of business on Friday.
The post office, in Clifton Green, was one of four York branches flagged up in a 50-strong closure covering the city as well as parts of North and East Yorkshire released by Post Office Ltd in November.
The shutters have already been pulled down at the Fulford and Haxby Road branches. The future of Micklegate Post Office hangs in the balance, with Royal Mail chairman Allen Leighton personally deciding the city centre service's fate after Post Office Ltd and PostWatch failed to reach an agreement.
A Post Office Ltd spokeswoman said of the date change: "We apologise to customers for the inconvenience this may cause."
