Although York was not among the ten cities selected to become super-connected cities, as part of £100 million investment announced at Autumn Statement 2011, York will set out its stall to be noticed in a £50 million second wave of ten smaller super-connected cities.

Nicola Spence, chief executive of Science City York, said they looked forward to seeing the detail of the second wave and what the opportunity to bid for it would be.

She said: “York would be an ideal candidate because of the investment in the city’s digital infrastructure, the pilot of broadband in the city centre and the number of digital and IT businesses that we have. We could present a very good case.”
