PARTNERS Group has donated £300 to Home-Start York, a local charity that supports isolated, bereaved and ill parents with pre-school age children.
Gill Wadsworth, senior organiser at Home-Start York, which has been supporting families in the city for more than 20 years, said: “The volunteers give their time free of charge but we pay for things such as travelling expenses, so this donation will help towards those costs, which will in turn help us to help more families in need.”
Families are referred by health visitors, midwives and social workers, or they can refer themselves.
Last year the charity supported 112 families including 191 children aged under five and 33 children aged five and over.
It currently has a team of 28 home-visiting volunteers and will be recruiting again in the new year.
Karen Nixon, director of The Partners Group said: “Christmas is a time of year when families come together and we are pleased to support a charity that is making such a huge difference to the lives of local families.”
