FUEL prices are still too high, said Gillian Cruddas, chief executive of Visit York despite the 1 per cent reduction announced in today’s Budget.
She said: “We still have concerns regarding the price of fuel which could impact on the number of short breaks made within the UK.”
However, she said, the “staycation”, was still proving extremely popular and York had “a fantastic opportunity to capitalise on this and increase visits and spend by UK visitors this year.
“It’s vitally important for York’s tourism sector that consumer confidence is restored and we hope some elements of the Budget may help to do this.
“We’re pleased to see a council tax freeze, for example, and the decrease in corporation tax should help tourism businesses,” she said.
