Escrick 's Splish Splosh Swimming School offers lessons at DW Sports Fitness

A NEW business venture between a York –based swimming school and one of the UK’s top fitness clubs has got the thumbs up from Olympic hopeful, Aimee Willmott.

Splish Splosh Swimming School of Escrick has joined forces with DW Sports Fitness at locations across the UK; including Trafford, Cambridge, Telford and Middlesbrough, offering swimming lessons to all ages for both members and non-members.

Established by Vicky Pettitt five years ago, Splish Splosh began at The Mount School in York then branched out to offer lessons at Q hotels, Ramada Jarvis hotels, Best Western and fitness centres such as Esporta, Greens Health and Momentum.

Ultimately it caught the attention of champion swimmer Aimee.

With the European Swimming Championships still fresh in her mind and thoughts of the Commonwealth Games fast approaching, Aimee, a member of the successful British Swimming Team, took time out of her busy schedule to show her support for the partnership in her home town of Middlesbrough.

She said: “Providing people with the opportunity to have access to swimming lessons is fantastic. Learning to swim at an early age not only ensures that they are safe but can also encourage them to explore the possibility of taking it up as a competitive sport. I’m sure that Splish Splosh will find plenty of eager swimmers in Middlesbrough.”

Vicky, 31, said: “We have been endeavouring for the past five years to ensure that Splish Splosh expands from being a regional to a national swimming school. We are now on our way to securing that with the deal with DW, and following our recent contact with Aimee, we will only draw on this to further our aspirations.

“With the competitive element to our teaching that we have introduced to our schooling, we could indeed find a champion swimmer just like her.”

With ASA Level 2 teachers in the water to maximum class sizes of one teacher to eight pupils, Splish Splosh is adamant that a personal approach is taken to ensure that her school provides an optimum level of customer service. Vicky said: “The pools in fitness clubs are usually ideal for lessons, because they are a manageable size for a new swimmer, modern and very clean.

“We also like to get the teacher into the water, and the shallow depths of the fitness centre pools offer us the opportunity to do that.”
