A TEENAGER from Whitby is cementing a new career in construction after gaining a bricklaying apprenticeship with the North East Apprenticeship Company (NEAC), which will see him working with award winning house builder Yuill Homes.

Dan Richardson, 16, landed the job after being recommended by the NEAC, an organisation tasked with increasing the number of young people taking up apprenticeships across the region. The former Whitby Community College pupil had been looking to learn a trade, but wanted to secure a career which offered proper training and enabled him to gain an industry recognised qualification.

As part of his apprenticeship with the NEAC, Dan will be working with the Yuill Homes team at its Whitby development, The Old Creamery, which is sited just off White Leys Road in the town. The Old Creamery will have a selection of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes for sale.

Yuill Homes are the approved sales and construction contractor for Broadacres Services Ltd and are working in partnership with Broadacres Housing Association on the site to offer an element of affordable homes.

Dan will also be working towards gaining his NVQ Level II in Bricklaying at Redcar and Cleveland College, which will equip him with the training, skills and a qualification to secure a long-term career in the building industry.
