Yorkshire Forward assets must not be sold to the highest bidder

ASSETS owned by doomed regional development agency Yorkshire Forward must not be sold to the highest bidder, Kersten England, chief executive of City of York Council has told business and enterprise minister Mark Prisk.

Ms England told delegates at the launch of the Leeds City Region’s Innovation Capital Programme in York that work was under way to manage the assets owned by Yorkshire Forward.

She said: “I told him there are assets in this region that belong to Yorkshire Forward which can not be sold to the highest bidder or to developers who may sit on them until the price is right.”

If the assets belong to the tax payer, directly or indirectly, then surely they should be sold to the body who will pay the most so as to return the maximum to the tax payer. Bodies 'sitting on purchases' is debatable since it can take a while for p.p to be granted or predicted use be somewhere down the line. If Ms. England's stance is indicative of attitudes, then even the last gasps of Yorkshire Forward will be more backwards than forwards.

Regional development agencies spent more time promoting themselves than promoting business. They also competed among themselves - which is lunacy when they are both paid out of state funds.

What assets do they own? The building? Then that should be sold to the highest bidder. There is no shortage of office space locally.
