AN ACCOUNTANT from York is today meeting top treasury officials at 11 Downing Street.
Jean Jesty, the tax partner at JWP Creers Chartered Accountants of York will be the only northern representative at a round-table discussion for 20 tax agents around the country who have been invited by Stephen Timms, the Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
The meeting was arranged because HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) recognises the contribution tax agents make in helping them to collect tax and deliver their services. Their views on improving tax administration and ideas are being sought along with how tax offices can better support Small and Medium Enterprises.
Mrs Jesty said: “It is probably too late to influence the Budget on March 24, but it is a good opportunity to influence the Treasury and HMRC to do what they can to consider measures to help small businesses.”
