Microsoft honour for Internet Farm Shop

A VIRTUAL farm shop based in East Yorkshire has been selected as one of only five small businesses in the UK to be filmed as part of a video project for the Microsoft Small Business Centre website.

The Internet Farm Shop is the hub of a web-based network for rural food producers throughout North and East Yorkshire.

It, was chosen by the software giant for its Do What You Love series of short films after owner Ann Brown, of Driffield, submitted an application in the form of a case study showing how the business had benefited from using a range of Microsoft products.

Ann said: “We were absolutely thrilled to take part in this project and honoured to have been chosen by Microsoft from the many entries they received. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for us to spread the word about our business.

“Many farmers are keen to have a presence on the internet, but don’t have the time or computer skills to create it themselves. Our site offers them a very easy, low-cost way to achieve this.

“Each producer has their own web page on the site, which gives them a great opportunity to promote their wares to both our online community and a wider general audience.”

The site also features a comprehensive listing of farmers’ markets throughout the north of England.

Microsoft’s Do What You Love initiative uses real-life scenarios to show small business owners how they can use Microsoft products to manage and develop their companies to make them more competitive and efficient.
