A FORMER independent Christian bookshop in the heart of York which went into administration is now up for sale for at least £250,000.

The empty shop, formerly SGCCT Books, in Goodramgate, has been put on the market through DTZ on behalf of the London administrators, Begbies Traynor.

DTZ has reported it is already getting interest in the premises, which has a total floorspace of about 1,600 sq ft on two storeys.

There are no leases or tenancies in place and the property is being sold with vacant possession.

Whoever buys it will pay rates of £8,487 on a rateable value of £17,500.

At the moment the premises have a retail planning designation, but there is a possibility of securing a change of use given that that there are restaurants, cafés and charity shops nearby.

Grant Owens, of DTZ, said: “The early interest in the property does not surprise me. It is in the heart of a busy retail location, close to the city walls and the minster, so there is a huge footfall.” For more details, phone Mr Owens on 0113 233 7360.
