Waste company Mosley’s of Topcliffe announce £10 million development plan

A WASTE disposal company in North Yorkshire has announced a £10 million development plan to increase annual turnover by £5 million and generate 20 new jobs.

Mosley’s, of Topcliffe, near Thirsk, said it would upgrade its facilities over the next two years, creating a state-of-the-art waste processing and recycling site to process waste from across Yorkshire.

The main feature will be a new £8 million anaerobic digester, which will enable the company to recycle around 95 per cent of the waste products it handles.

The investment will also include expansion of the nature conservation area on Mosley’s 50-acre site, where several lakes and 15 acres of trees form a safe habitat for birds, fish, waterfowl and other wildlife.

Simon Mosley, who recently took over day-to-day operations of the business from his father, Roger, who founded the company 36 years ago, said: “I am delighted that we are able to make this investment, which will enable us to bring Mosley’s right up-to-date so that we can compete with other major players in the field of waste management.

“I am especially pleased that we’ll be able to create more jobs for people in the local area.”

He said they were keen to educate the public about Mosley’s cutting-edge practices and procedures, and would be holding regular open days and inviting school parties to visit the premises to find out what happens when waste material is processed.

The company also offers a site audit service to help organisations keep up-to-date with the latest compliance and legislation.

Simon said: “Many people don’t really understand what modern waste management is all about. When our anaerobic digester is in place, all the waste that goes into it will emerge as either organic fertiliser or clean water.

“Anaerobic digestion is the future of waste processing.

“It not only reduces the emission of harmful landfill gases, but also produces biogas, a renewable energy source which is a greener alternative to fossil fuels and can be supplied to the National Grid.

“Rather than adding to landfill waste that nobody wants, we are actually creating useful products that will help to conserve the planet’s resources.”
