EVEN before York Hub is formally launched on November 26, it is half full with ten businesses taking advantage of the flexible city centre office space.

The York Hub is an office complex in Peter Lane, off Market Street, which offers hot desks, dedicated work stations, meeting rooms and virtual office facilities.

John Logan, of Haxby Road, York, an entrepreneur who specialises in car parking solutions and property development, is the man behind the project which allows ventures to hire the facilities by the day, week or month. He said: “I am not surprised that the word got around so quickly.

“Apart from previous publicity in The Press announcing the idea, I have been well supported by Business Link Yorkshire and other organisations like Creative York, the University of York and the Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry.”

The new tenants include video editor Simon Collins; freelance copywriter Miles Salter; graphic designer John Cotton; holiday lettings firm Astbury Formentura; Woodcarvers of York; business coach Ann-Marie Logan; old manuscript transcriber Ian Whorley; and private maths teacher Matthew Handy.

Creation of the York Hub, thought to be the first flexible office in York city centre, was filmed by a BBC1 camera crew for Homes Under The Hammer as John successfully bidded for the nearly 2,000sq ft of space. It will be screened early in the New Year.

Mr Logan, 39, said: “It’s an idea I’ve had for years, but I’ve just been waiting for the right premises to become available. Our vision is to provide a supportive, vibrant and creative working environment for individuals, companies and enterprises, giving affordable access to a commercial location as and when it is needed and fostering networking at the same time.” Anyone interested should phone him on 01904 670671.
