PureNet, the design and e-commerce company based at the York Science Park has proved and improved its pedigree time and again in these awards.

The firm clinched the New Business Of The Year title in 2007. It was also a finalist in the Small Business category last year. Now comes sweet victory, in spite of a record number of small business entries.

Its founder and managing director, Dr Paul Gibson, a former computer programmer for Nestlé Rowntree, has built up PureNet into a 12-person, profitable and expanding enterprise with capital reserves, no borrowings and on track to meet a £580,000 turnover this year.

Its long and lengthening client list of major retailers and manufacturers, includes Cargo HomeShop, Birmingham City Football Club, Ritchey, ProStar, Store21, Rexel, the QS Group, Animalcare Plc and PayStream – a subsidiary of Lloyds TSB.

Judges described Dr Gibson’s design and e-commerce company based at York Science Park’s IT Centre, as “a well-run and profitable business – a definite local success story with a good understanding of its customers and their needs”.

And they praised Paul for leading a business “that has a clear plan of where it wants to be”.
