THREE years ago, insulation business Solarwall diversified into the renewable energy sector to provide a sustainable future for its employees.
Last year, the business, which is based at Green Lane Trading Estate in Clifton, opened an Energy Centre demonstrating renewable energy products, such as solar thermal panels and heat pumps, to the domestic market.
The business now employs 65 people and Sue Lamb, managing director, said the Energy Centre, the brainchild of Grant Henderson, director of Solarwall, has increased turnover in its renewable division by 100 per cent in the past year.
Sue said: “As the domestic insulation side of the business slows down due to funding restrictions, this increase has enabled staff to become multi disciplined and ensure that their employment is secure in what was a volatile industry.”
Over the next two years the business plans to expand the Energy Centre with a mobile centre to take to local authorities’ and businesses’ own premises or to events.
Solarwall is going for Think Green Business Of The Year at The Press Business Awards 2011, and has nominated Grant Henderson for Business Personality Of The Year.
