IF business goes in cycles, then cycles often go to this business.
Woldsend Holiday Cottages in Low Moorgate, Rillington, was started in August last year by York building developer Steve Kent and his partner, Pat Lineham, who are now pitching for the Small Business Of The Year as well as the Tourism And Hospitality titles.
Both were inspired by the huge success of last year’s Mountain Bike Cross Country World Cup event at Dalby Forest.
They wanted to create the ultimate in self-catering accommodation for outdoor enthusiasts and they did.
Since transforming a dilapidated 18th century stone barn into two-bedroomed Rose Cottage and four bedroomed Granary Cottage, they have been festooned with bookings both from hikers and bikers and the development has been awarded the coveted five star status by English Country Cottages.
Twitchers love it because they are equipped with CCTV to watch birds in their habitat. Cyclists love it because of the bike and boot wash area and high tech bike storage facilities to keep bicycles, often worth thousands of pounds, secure from thieves.
