The Balloon is up for Mitrefinch Ltd, of Clifton Moor. The employee management software company which has twice won the Science and Technology accolade in The Press Business Awards is pitching to regain its title along with the Large Business Of The Year category – and its entire submission is based on work it has done for The Balloon Tree Farmshop and Café in Great Helmsley.

Ironically, its help has contributed towards The Balloon Tree mounting its own awards campaign in two other categories.

Mitrefinch has succeeded in helping The Balloon Tree to record the time taken by workers picking produce on the farm in order to balance their profit margins.

It was achieved using Mitrefinch TMS (Time Management System), software which has contributed heavily to the growth of Mitrefinch to the point where it has 90 people serving 2,000 customers worldwide.

The Balloon Tree chose to implement the solution using a rugged PDA (Portable Data Assistant) equipped with a pocket TMS software.

Its success has now prompted Mitrefinch to launch its Pocket TMS software on other devices such as i-Phone, Blackberry and all mobile phones using text messages.
