ONE of the best ways of developing nursery children is by developing nursery staff.
That is clear when you look at the emphasis on training at The Big Blue House Nursery group, based in Stamford Bridge.
And it a good reason for the Group to pitch for the Progress Through People category as well as the Small Business Of The Year title in The Press Business Awards 2009.
The organisation consists of three children’s day nurseries and two after-school clubs. It employs 90 people, many of whom have been trained at its own NVQ assessment centre.
Established in 2005, the centre has enabled staff to take their NVQ Level 3 qualification in children’s care learning and development.
Having an in-house training centre gives the staff an opportunity to gain a qualification in childcare and improve the standards of the nursery further.
The courses have led to many internal promotions and some have gone on to take an Early Years Foundation Degree and NVQ Level 4 in management.
Their hard work culminates in an annual rewards dinner, so staff can socialise and recognise their achievements.
In the future, The Big Blue House aims to develop a Training Academy, which will deliver an even wider range of internal courses.
Sharon Noel, development manager, said: “The staff are doing really well and we are excited about the fantastic opportunity for them to develop themselves and the nursery.”
