MEN know all about the Mullen brothers’ business – or at least they should.

They skill themselves up in order to make their High Petergate shop absolute specialists in slick and sleek gifts, clothes and accessories for men.

Damien, 30, and Dominic, 28, are hoping that the success of their business, which also involves their father, Stephen, will hold them in good stead for the Family Business Of The Year category. Dominic’s business acumen and sales flair sees him nominated for the Young Entrepreneur title.

Upper 10 started five years ago as a gift shop catering in quality gifts for gentlemen, ranging from grooming requisites to cufflinks.

While many small shops folded during the recession, Upper 10 continued to succeed. However, always looking to improve and expand, the brothers realised that the business would have to extend beyond the four walls of the shop.

Dominic initiated this extension when he joined the Christmas Fair Association. By attending more than 30 nationwide charitable sales events over the last four years, the brothers have greatly added to their sales and raised more than £10,000 for charity.

Most notable is Upper 10’s bespoke shirt-making service. Dominic went to Saville Row to become fully trained as a Maitre Chemisier. Consequently, the brothers built a thriving customer base of shirt clients.

More than 90 per cent of their shirt business is conducted as a visiting service to customers in York, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and even London.
