If the weather continues to perk up we're going to be in for a great day at York Green Festival.

Sunday 31st August, Rowntree Park.

Free entry from 11am - 5pm.

A programme of workshops and discussions on green issues are running through the day, including a film, discussion and workshop about the power of community action, led by the New Internationalist Magazine.

York Rotters will talking about home composting and Bike Rescue will be demonstrating some of the more colourful examples of their handiwork.

Alternative therapies can be explored in the healing area and there are campaign stalls from a diverse spectrum of local and national groups.

There is dedicated area for children with eco-friendly activities - featuring storytellers, Yoga classes, Kindermusik and entertainer Professor Fiddlesticks. There are also exhibitions of Youth Art from Cherry Tree Nursery.

As well as the opportunity to browse the ethical traders or grab a bite to eat from one of the vegetarian food stalls or the cafe, there is entertainment provided, with live music from great bands across two stages, and York’s underground DJ collectives will be keeping the tempo up in the dance tent.

Kinotastic can be found in the bottom field with their solar powered cinema showing a collection of non-copyrighted films.

York Green Festival is supported by The Co-op and by BBC Radio York who will be in the park with an outside broadcast bus.

York Green Festival is organised by a collective of volunteers on a not-for-profit basis and entrance is free.

The aim of the festival is promote sustainability and raise awareness of green lifestyle choices such as renewable energy, reducing and recycling waste, conserving and enhancing biodiversity, healthy living, equitable trading, organic agriculture, non-violence, tolerance and fun.

Recycling facilities are being provided by the Friends of St. Nicholas Fields - please place all your renewable waste in the bins provided.
