York Outer - The Movie

Posted on 11:40pm Wednesday 8th August 2007

To further my campaign to become the Labour candidate for the York Outer constituency, I have released a DVD. This DVD has taken me ages to produce. It explains my priorities for York Outer and more about me as a possible candidate. I filmed, edited, printed and burnt all of them. However it only cost me £40. To watch the video, please click here.

Priorities for York Outer

Posted on 7:48am Monday 6th August 2007

I said in my open letter that I am not arrogant enough to think I have all the answers. Therefore I undertook a consultation process with the members of York Outer, trade unions, socialist societies, friends, family and the residents of York. I have come to the conclusion that there are things that a York Outer MP should be doing anyway, increasing employment, improving flood defences, sorting out York’s transport problems, fighting crime and so on.

Labour Gain in York Outer

Posted on 8:44pm Friday 3rd August 2007

Many people have said to me that York Outer is unwinnable for Labour. I have always disputed this as complete rubbish. Winning a seat depends on how hard you work, whether you can campaign cleverly and of course the national picture. If I am lucky enough to be selected as the candidate for York Outer, I am sure I can win.

Open letter to the residents of York Outer

Posted on 8:10pm Tuesday 31st July 2007

Soon the local Labour party will have a choice in selecting the Labour Parliamentary candidate for York Outer. York Outer is a new constituency that includes areas on the periphery of York. But I don’t want the views of the residents of York Outer to be on the periphery, I want their views to be at the heart of political decision-making in this country. I want to live in a society where a person’s talents and hard work will determine where they get to in life and not the reverse. For these reasons, after thinking long and hard, I have humbly registered my interest to be chosen as Labour candidate for York Outer. I want to put York Outer residents first.

The Weapon of Opposition - Openness

Posted on 1:35pm Thursday 26th July 2007

My last post was about Council meetings and I suppose it is only right that I mention the full Council meeting – the meeting of meetings.

“Meetings are indispensable when you don't want to do anything”

Posted on 8:41am Thursday 19th July 2007

This is a quote from the late John Kenneth Galbraith, the Canadian-American economist. In my limited time on the Council, I tend to agree. I want to do something, I want to change things and I want to make a difference – idealistic and nieve I know, but I do not want to sit around doing nothing.
