Budget time again, yippee, I wonder what “new” ideas we will see.

Fascinating that there are as many ways of slicing up taxation and spending as there are people in the UK. Is it possible there are two who have the same ideas?

We've heard a few “leaks” and some of the more worrying are the plans to “sell off” sorry lease out main roads to companies, who rather like the water companies will tell us vast investment is needed and that we need to pay more. Any company needs to make a profit for its shareholders, otherwise why invest, so what we will be doing is paying for repairs with an additional bit on top for investors, great!

If like the water companies it will result in huge bills like mine, where my water rates are nearly half as much again as my council tax, then “get lost George” will be the cry. Of course by the time this happens George probably won't still be Chancellor and won't have to manage the issues this will bring.

Quite clever really as higher costs will drive more of us off the road. Not to travel on the increasingly expensive public transport, not to ride our bikes on disconnected, limited and dangerous cycle lanes, but to stay at home, leaving the roads and the shops clear for those who can afford it....!

I do like the idea of listing what our taxes are spent on, so everyone can see what various things like Police, Welfare, Transport etc. and of course the dratted EU cost. Will it highlight the costs of devolution and why English people pay for many things the Welsh, Northern Irish and Scottish get for free, if only? How your personal taxation has been spent will be fascinating for us all. Nice one George!

Will that get the country back to work? I doubt it.

So I'll hold my breath and wait to see how imaginative George can be in inventing ways to take more money from the pocket of the honest, taxpaying, average working man, because honestly that's what Budgets always seem to come down to.
