As the Union Terrace Car Park fiasco continues. Will it lead to the loss of the York Constituency for Hugh Bailey?

The Press readers will no doubt be staggered that the Labour led City of York Council has again ignored the very public voice of the people and chosen to go ahead with the sale of Union Terrace Car and Coach Park.

The council will consider one of its own 5 options instead of the total sale. As AP Cox points out in The Press Letters page, "Where is option six?", the option to leave things as they are? That is what 20,000 signatures have told the council, but they don't seem to care.

Another good option is proposed in The Press, Letters by David Quarrie, who suggests we sell the university the old nurses homes, that lie close by between Bootham Hospital and York Hospital. Or is there something else we should be "told" about that option?

A further option is to build on their own car parking, which is unaffected by these plans!

Councillors be warned that there are 20,000 signatures that say DON'T SELL THE CAR AND COACH PARK. When the next election comes along we will not be voting to continue with Labour in York! Labour's Hugh Bailey will also feel the backlash for Labour's failure to listen. This not listening something we associate with the worst of regimes around the world. Why is it happening here? Have councillors forgotten that they are not running a business, they are local people running a city council, for local people. It is not all about short term construction jobs, or short stay students.

How much more of our city and green belt is to be gobbled up by the twin steamrollers of learning? While we taxpayers have to try to live here and enjoy the scraps left to us.
