Wow, I am staggered by the speed with which the YCFC board have responded to the poor results this season.

I missed the game on Saturday, on holiday in Robin Hood's Bay dodging horizontal raindrops and near horizontal tourists. The game must have been disappointing to watch and reading the match report in The Press was nearly as bad. The biggest worry though was to read that Billy McEwan was asking "What more can I do"? That worried me more than the poor performance because if he has no ideas then where are they to come from?

I like the way Billy wears his heart on his sleeve and shows how much he cares when we win or lose. I like the fact that he recognises that supporters are very important and that watching football isn't cheap. I was pleased with the way he turned the club around after the hopeless performance by Chris Brass, but this year has been very hard for all of us.

I have to admit I'd have given him more time, but given his comments at the weekend the Board are probably right and perhaps this is best for Billy Mcwan too. He needs a break to gather his thoughts, to make his plans, to review what went well and what went badly, and to think what to do now.

However, he does leave having won Manager of the month more than once while at the helm, and for quite a time at least his teams gave us pleasure and hope. Thanks Billy, I wish you well and am sure you will soon be managing another team.

Looking forward, let’s hope the next manager is both a brilliant manager and is wealthy enough to invest millions in the club as well. Yes OK I know, I’m a dreamer, that’s why I love football.
