No I don't mean York City FC were poor on Saturday, although they were actually. I mean poor York City FC as they are still suffering the effects of losing almost all of the funds they had built
up of generations. The reason YCFC struggle is that they can't afford to keep enough players on the books, they can't gamble on player by giving them longer contracts, and they can't pay enough to
keep the good players from moving on.
Billy McEwan has worked well with some players to get them back playing well. Bishop, Bishop, and Donaldson spring to mind but there have been others who have gone elsewhere because the financial
prospects and security are better.
The after effects of the Craig era are still with us and will be for many years to come. As a lifetime supporter and season ticket holder, I still continue to attend the matches, even though I expect
much less these days, but I still remember being at Old Trafford when we beat Manchester United 3 - 0, happy days.
So let's remember that all players have off days, all managers make mistakes with tactics and substitutions, all referees seem to dislike YCFC, the McGill's have done a superb job keeping City alive.
Also remember that players come and go, with some enjoying success and some not. Supporters are always there for the disappointments and the defeats, but we are always there for the triumphs too and
our triumphs stay with us forever!
