The selection of speaker has been a contest between the two main parties and the tories are furious that one of their misfits has somehow emerged but labour are happy. It has nothing to do with us, the voters. It’s all to do with which of them governs us, holds the power and influences every aspect of our lives.

A small skirmish in the final battle for the biggest prize GB Plc has to offer. This has been the way for longer than anyone can remember, accept for the war years. First one, then the other.

No wonder they act as if they are self employed, running their own enterprise with their own rules for their own benefit. They have done it for so long, they claim joint ownership by right of unopposed tenancy.

When their turn comes around, by virtue of minority voting, they have things all their own way for a decade. Only now in their death throes are we seeing any semblance of effective opposition to show themselves as the only option. That’s why they have been able to treat our taxes as their own for so long. Labour are now ready to be put to rest and desperate for a decade in which their next generation can gain strength while the incomers enjoy their turn. The tories didn’t protect us from the worst financial melt down, they helped fuel it. Labour in opposition will be no more effective.

It’s a two act show; there is one waiting in the wings thinking up new tricks while the other exhausts its repertoire. The trouble is we now know them too well and want to play our own part.

No wonder they stand together against Proportionate Representation and offer a few crumbs when needed to keep us quiet. What they offer is nowhere near what we need. With first past the post the only winners are the two main parties.

As for us ......................... we get what we deserve.
