Gordon Brown has made another Labour Party offer of a referendum on PR. His reasons may be more about wrong footing his political opponents and self preservation than what's good for our crippled society, but we really must make the most of the offer and make sure that it is not allowed to go onto the back burner again. We should make it the engine of our revival.
Our failing system desperately needs to be placed under the TLC of the people for its survival and of our national place on the top table of international world affairs.
The PM should show faith in us with a thorough, open national discussion of the versions of PR voting, then offer all to be voted on. Not just palm us off with the version he thinks will retain most power for MPs and their parties. He seems set on VA. I favour STV. We should all be fully familiar with them before voting.
It will be the most vital vote we have ever made.
