The weekend of 23-24 May 2009 has been such an improvement on trying to hold York Roman Festival in shivering October under three inches of water.

Saturday has been glorious and it was a pleasure to be Head Steward of the event once again. The Living History Camp in Library Gardens has been a great success with many hundreds of visitors on the first day.

Kids were invited to either make a Roman shield and for the best one to be adjudged by the new Lord Mayor of York, Councillor John Galvin. York Roman Festival 2009 was the first event of the Mayoral calendar to be attended both by the Lord Mayor and the Sheriff of York.

A new tour of eating establishments has been added to the list of attractions this year with an authentic recipe for Lucianian Sausages and Honeyed Pine Nut Wine being a massive hit at The Evil Eye Lounge.

York Roman Festival continues on Sunday 24 May, including a hilarious kids' battle drill in Library Gardens and the final event being a screening of Stanley Kubrik's "Spartacus" at City Screen at 7pm.
